The first dance between newlyweds is one of the most beautiful parts of your wedding day. Choosing the perfect song to capture this moment is a time for you and your partner to reminisce on the love you share. From the beginning of the relationship to where the two of you are now, the song should embody the partnership in its entirety. The song can be romantic, meaningful, emotional, or fun!

Having a difficult time picking the perfect song? No worries! If you need some inspiration, here are a few of the most popular wedding songs played for a first dance:

“Speechless” by Dan + Shay: As if the song isn’t romantic enough already, the singing duo released an acoustic version of the song specifically for weddings. This feel-good song gets me every time!

“Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran: The English singer/songwriter painted a beautiful picture of love with this song. The lyrics talk about how things change in life, but one thing that will never change is the love for your significant other.

“Marry You” by Bruno Mars: This song will get everyone up on their feet dancing along! “Marry You” is a pop track more frequently used for proposals, but it’s also great to portray an upbeat, fun relationship during the first dance.

“Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley: An oldie but goodie! Either the original or a modern-day cover of the classic will have you and all your guests shedding happy tears.

“All of Me” by John Legend: Legend dedicated this piano ballad to his wife so you know it will tug at the heartstrings. He sings about loving every part of someone; the good and the bad, the “perfect imperfections."

“Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur: This R&B song explains how someone was pulled out of the darkness when they met their partner. Their love saved them and now they never want to let go.

“Wanted” by Hunter Hayes: For all the country music fans, this song is for you! Hayes explains he wrote this song because he thought music is more impactful than just words. It’s about being in a beautiful relationship and it can keep getting better by showing your partner is wanted every day.

“God Gave Me You” by Dave Barnes: With a more religious meaning, this song was inspired by Barnes’ wife. He sings about how God created her so they could be together, to be there during the ups and downs of life.

Most of these are songs you guests should be familiar with so they are able to feel the love you and your partner share. Everyone can sing along and even join you two on the dancefloor if you’d like! But enjoy the dance with your partner and have fun choosing the song together, because this is a song you will remember for the rest of your lives.
